Stay Warm with Happy Hour

The temperature drops quickly in fall, after the blazing heat of summer. While a welcome change, sometimes you need to a way to combat the cold. What better way of warming up than going to happy hour in Meridian? Restaurants like Ling & Louie’s Asian Bar and Grill offer cocktail specials and discounts on appetizers. Warm up with sake and a spicy California roll or hand-wrapped potstickers.

Go to a Pumpkin Patch

Wrap a scarf around your neck and visit one of the Treasure Valley’s many pumpkin patches. They’re fun afternoons out where you’ll find pumpkins, gourds, or flint corn for decorations. If you have kids (or are a kid at heart), some offer hay rides, pig races, or animals for petting like goats! Be prepared when it’s time to carve a jack-o’-lantern for Halloween!

Corn Mazes

It’s not unusual for some pumpkin patches to also offer corn mazes. With a variety of paths, sizes, and designs, you can have a lot of fun wandering through the tall stalks of corn. For example, Linder Farms in Meridian offers three paths ranging from a quarter-mile to three miles, with a total of six miles. Or, try The Farmstead in Kuna, which offers corn mazes on 18 acres of corn.

Haunted Houses

As Halloween approaches, it’s time to get your scare on! If you are looking for a spooky way to spend an afternoon, try The Haunted World in Caldwell, which has been offering up 17 years of frights and fear, said to be the largest haunted house in the state. A newer haunted house, also in Caldwell, is Requiem, which claims to be the largest indoor haunted attraction in the Treasure Valley with 13,000 square feet of scares.

Visit the Old Idaho Penitentiary

For a history lesson sure to send chills down your spine, take a tour of the Old Idaho Penitentiary. Opened in 1872, the Old Pen has a reputation as one of the most haunted places in the state. With a history of prison riots and executions, it’s no surprise old inmates may have stuck around after death! The tour includes solitary confinement, cell blocks, and the gallows. For an even more frightening time, the Old Pen opens up for two Halloween parties, one that’s family-friendly and another that’s just for adults. The cell block becomes a haunted house, while actors wander around, portraying prisoners of the past. Take your own mugshot or visit the hearse and undertaker!
