Looking for New Experiences in the Treasure Valley for 2020? Try These Local Activities!

You may have lived in the Treasure Valley for years, but there are plenty of places to see and activities to do that you may not have experienced. Make your New Year’s Resolution to visit places new to you, whether it’s visiting a restaurant for happy hour in Meridian or the Birds of Prey Center.

The Old Idaho Penitentiary

Enjoy an afternoon exploring history at the Old Idaho Penitentiary. Whether you wander around by yourself or take a guided tour, there are more than 100 years of history with solitary confinement, cell blocks, and gallows. Learn all about daring escapes, scandals, and executions of criminals. Don’t miss the collection of historic weaponry!

Restaurants You’ve Been Meaning to Try

Are there restaurants that you keep saying you’re meaning to try? Now is the perfect time to try them. Find places to eat in Meridian, head downtown to the lunch spot you keep meaning to try or that delicious sushi place all of your coworkers rave about.

The Village

The Village is not just a mall. With live music, events, a water fountain with fun displays, restaurants, and plenty of shops, it’s an entire fun day out all in one place. Catch a movie at the Village Cinema 15, which offers VIP seating, then look around for a great new place to spend happy hour.

The Train Depot

This former train station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. With open houses on Sundays and Mondays, you can climb the bell tower for fantastic views and see Big Mike the steam engine. The train depot is also the home of the famous Platt Gardens, a great spot for special occasion photographs.

The Birds of Prey Center

The Peregrine Fund World Center for Birds of Prey offers daily events featuring their hawks, owls, and more. They provide daily programs such as the Falconry Heritage Tour and live bird presentations. You can also meet Grayson, one of the handful of rare Harpy Eagles in the United States that can be handled on the glove.

The Boise River Greenbelt

Enjoy the outdoors by walking the Boise River Greenbelt. This 25-mile tree-lined pathway makes up one of Boise’s most beloved parks and offers an alternate commute along the banks of the Boise River. Offering scenic views, wildlife habitats, and pedestrian access to popular riverside parks, it’s a great way to see Boise. Whether you walk, jog, or bike, you can commune with nature while going through points of interest including the Lucky Peak Dam, the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Julia Davis Park, downtown Boise, the Boise City Main Library, the Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial, Ann Morrison Park, Veterans Memorial Park, and more.
